FUNCTIONAL EFFICIENCY
The eco-design requirements for the most part overlap with those established since 2015 for Google’s mobile-first reform, namely: Lightness of pages and Speed of display to ensure the best user experience on mobile terminals.
Between 1995 and 2021, the average weight of a web page will have multiplied by 155! Pages that are too heavy, that refresh themselves, with videos in automatic playback, etc., are a threat to the user experience.
OVERALL REDUCTION IN RESOURCE CONSUMPTION
/ The eco-design of a website enables us to act on three sources of savings:
- 1. The manufacture of digital hardware (servers, desktop or mobile terminals) and therefore the hosting and Datacenter of the site. 65 to 90% of the environmental impact, depending on the environmental indicator considered
- 2. Datacentres– between 4% and 22
- 3. Networks, and therefore the weight and loading times of the site’s content, as well as the frequency with which it is consulted – between 2% and 14

ECO-RESPONSIBLE HOSTING

- Partner 1: 100% renewable energy – Data centres cooled in the open air (no air-conditioning) – Machine life extended to 15 years – Energy efficiency index – PUE – of 1.09 compared with a European average of 1.8 – 200% offsetting of their CO2 emissions
- Partner 2 : PUE of 1.3 for existing data centres and target of less than 1.15 for new ones – 100% re-use and recycling of IT components – IT equipment life cycle extended to 10 years – Data centres powered by 100% renewable energy, mainly hydroelectric, since 2017
